  1. Alan Wright

    Brilliant design.
    Simple instructions to follow.
    Awesome customer service.
    Highly recommend!

  2. Charlotte Foster

Me and the kids have very much enjoyed useing pur worm farm, made well, worms are happy, good booklet on instructions, really good for the garden and my chickens enjoy the odd worm

  3. Seb Daley

Sturdy construction and built to last. Worms with the wormery healthy looking. Very pleased with this purchase and would recommend to anyone.

  4. Michael Price

Sturdy well thought through product fit for purpose

  5. Jo

After trouble with receiving my parcel and several phone calls later, it all arrived in one piece. Setting up was easy and everything is going well

  6. Rachel Johnson

I had trouble with rats coming from a neighbours garden when I used my compost bin and a friend recommended this product. I am pleased I listened as I can house this around the far side of the bungalow. Rats seem to have given up now as just garden waste in the compost bin and things the rats don’t like such as onion peelings and parsnips. I did have a slight problem and first, contacted the seller, problem resolved without any fuss. Highly recommend this product.

  7. Adrian Bridge

Instructions very clear only had it a week so haven’t started using my own food waste yet but so far it has done everything as described – very pleased can’t wait to start feeding my little friends and reaping the benefits.

  8. Sarah Stanworth

I’ve had wormeries before but this is the best one by far. Instructions are simple and customer service is excellent. Definitely recommend, don’t waste your money on anything else you won’t be disappointed!

  9. Mike Spencer-Harty

Well packaged and easy to set up, there were a few worms on the outside of the bag that made a surprisingly quick escape but were quickly rounded up. There were good setup instructions which were useful. I tore the cardboard box it arrived in into small pieces, soaked them, then used them to cover the soaked and coir bedding added some feed and the worms as suggested. Worms seem happy and are staying put. Will start to add veg waste in small quantities from week two.

  10. Samuel Kaye

Beautifully designed wormery. Very clear instructions included. And my worms arrived in fantastic condition, Has room for future growth and expansion of the colony in the future.

  11. Mark

    Really pleased. Easy to assemble
    The worms are thriving

  12. Janet

Its a good size and so can be moved if needed.
    The worms are still alive.

  13. T C

The item arrived on time easy assembly.

  14. Alex G

Great but would reccomend perhas lining the bottom tray with some sort of mesh that will allow the liquid feed to filter through, i was collecting some for my plants to day only to find some baby escapees, when I opened it up further it was a little baby worm massacre. other than that this product is great

  15. S Couthard

Great professional service, arrived within the time scheduled. Easy to assemble, full instructions came with it. Decent size also. Doesn’t dominate the space it’s in and produces a decent amount of compost.

  16. Stefan P

Everything you need to become a worm farmer and compost maker.
The unit assembly was fairly straightforward, no tools are required, with the various sections feeling solid and well made. The instructions are very clear and concise not only for putting the wormery together but also containing lots of hints & tips to enable the novice to achieve the best possible start.
    Just the job!

  17. T Slade

Very well made and good clear instructions

  18. Ian JT

Well made, good instruction booklet, however did use their website as well. As described being new worms tried to run away, for want of better expression , put 3 handfuls of old compost in , worked straight away no more tried to escape. Fed them food that came with worms, then just started 2 weeks adding little bits of kitchen waste. First time trying a wormary. Well pleased so far.

  19. Chris

As a proficient Worm farmer, we bought this to introduce our kids to vermiculture, sadly, it’s turned out to be a pile of junk.
Firstly, the design let’s water in, too much water in the unit makes unhappy Worms. The castings are always wet.
Next up is the poor design of the tap position. Water collects in the bottom, which produces condensation making wet castings.
The only way to overcome this and stop the Worms drowning is put a brick under the back edge.
Lastly, the Worms sink to the bottom (again, drowning in their own liquid waste (not Worm tea BTW!) So we had to use a permeable cloth across the base and then add the tiers to stop this and prevent the build up of blockage.
The tap is poorly positioned and should be mounted on the underside with a plastic gauge filter to stop blockages. The holes in the trays and gaps in the sides are too big and spend endless hours hunting for escaped Worms. Far better to make your own out of a tub or old bath than waste money on this.

  20. Mrs pars

I’ve always brought liquid fertiliser but this was becoming costly with the amount of vegetables and plants I grow so decided to take the plunge and order this.

The worms were really healthy looking and settled into their new home well. Would highly recommend. Hopefully they are happy and produce lovely fertiliser for me

  21. Gary Cohen

Quick delivery. Very helpful information on getting started.
    Easy to assemble. Well made.

  22. Andi Kettering

This is my first wormery and I have managed to establish a thriving worm population despite the very hot weather, easy to follow instructions. My one criticism is that the top does not not tightly so worms can escape easily and pest like slugs can get in.

  23. Duncan Barker

This is a stackable tray system rather than a dustbin type that you have to empty out when it’s full and then remove the compost and then remove the worms and start all over again from scratch. It’s a time consuming messy job.
This wormery consists of stackable trays that can be removed when full of compost. It’s a far better system because you don’t have to completely empty it everytime . You simply remove the bottom tray and after you have used the compost just place it back on top of the stack,,simple…
I have used the dustbin type for years and this is far superior.
I recommend this wormery because it’s the best available.

  24. Neville Harris

    Very good

  25. Brian

A great way to recycle your food

  26. Iris

Received with a bag of strong and healthy words. Made the bed and they never wanted to escape ever. Well settled now and my first tray is full and decaying quickly. Was a bit too hot in full sun spot so now by the side of the shed and they are happy. Not smelly when closed.

  27. Birthday Gift

Surprise birthday present, it’s now my husband’s favourite thing to do as soon as he gets home…it’s surprising how strongly he’s bonded with them…!

  28. RC London

This is fun for kids though wife not so impressed. It starts producing liquid quite quickly and has plenty of space for peelings. They take longer than I expected to decompose though, even with the worms.

  29. Jacqueline B

    Arrived quickly, excellent quality product.
My new colony all survived and settled in their new home.
I finished the cereal feed provided with the product and have now progressed to, flower petals, crushed egg shell, and they just love egg boxes!!!
5 weeks on, I think I may have to add another level, the worms are travelling from their current level to the next, all is well at present. I need to read the leaflet about for guidance on the next level

  30. Kes

I had wanted a wormery for some time, my wife bought me the 4 tray 100 litre model and i was so pleased she chose the British one. Easy to assemble, clear instructions had it up and running within the hour. As usual with everything i was too impatient and wanted instant compost. However a year on and i have hundreds of very happy healthy worms and getting a regular supply of compost. I also get a decent amount of juice from the sump (the process from the worms doing their job) i put this in our watering cans as it is great for tomatoes and plants. I dont get any ants or other bugs. Even though we do get a weekly food waste collection i prefer to use the wormery for most of our waste. (peelings mostly) I never add citrus or onions, Best present i have had for years, great value.

  31. Customer

great product and the owner was very helpful I would recommend to anyone

  32. customer

Excellent product, excellent service from delivery to postage and packaging. Delivered within 1-2 days. Really satisfied with the service received and quality of product. Highly recommended

  33. Chris Dormon

Still getting established. It seems that the worms will not eat very much. The wormery will not replace the compost bin.

  34. Flower

This is not an outdoor wormery for our dismal rainy uk weather. First night it rained and filled the sump and bins with water. The tap was open. The tap in the sump is not low enough in the sump to drain the water before it reaches dangerous levels. Its a very poor design if the first thing it does on a rainy night is turn the sump into a swimming pool and drown the worms and saturate the bin. The art of keeping worms is also an art in moisture control. If the compost is squeezed and a few drops come out that is about right. You do not want worms requesting towels to dry themselves and life jackets because they can’t swim. If you were designing something to catch rain water this would be it. The lips on the trays stick out and run water to the inside. The tap is high in the sump because the design does not allow the washer to be screwed onto the tap if it was lower. Instead of changing the design the tap was left as a useless decoration. The lid is easily blown away by the wind as it sits on the top and slides back and forth on small plastic tags that lift it a few mm from the rim. Flies and more will have easy access. A rainy stormy night would see a lidless wormery with drowned worms. I have so far had to buy new worms, drill holes in the sump box and place it in a shed. The coir block provided is something worms do not like very much. Worms thrive on bacteria and you need to put other compost into the bin for them not to leave in droves. You also cannot soak the block in chlorinated water.
Overall I cannot fathom how this bin got an award. Buyer beware because this bin is not a worms friend more something for raising tadpoles.

  35. Robert Carver

Over the moon with the quality and sturdiness of this. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to start composting

  36. Mr. G. Napper

Brilliant. Do read instructions carefully about caring for your wriggling new friends. Do not over feed etc. Mine have been settled in for a month now and have grown well and been happy to stay put without any escapes. Update. One year on I have 5 gallons of lovely liquid fertiliser ready to be diluted this summer and fed to the garden. I also have 3 trays of rich dark worm cast compost I have been using very successfully to raise seedlings. Very pleased and the worms are big and happy. Learning over the year….when a load of tiny htread worms appeared I thought they were babies but turned out to be a different breed that settle in when the environment is too damp. On investigation I found the tap had blocked and wasn’t draing into my gallon container anymore causing excessive damp in the system. Easily sorted and a load of egg box cardboard later they slowly reduced in number. Overall been very pleased with the experience and results.

  37. Tabby

Really pleased, great construction, plenty of coir, plenty of worms! A great big bag and lots of them, fat and healthy and in perfect condition, worm food and great instructions too. Easy to assemble and looks neat and attractive in garden. Thank you!

  38. Customer

At the moment my Wormcity is in the garage due to it being winter time. The worms are,as the instructions indicate not very active. So come Spring a Summer time I will be able to find out more.

  39. Phil

Very easy to set up and all the worms settle in

  40. J Hall

I really like the idea of this and the fact you stack the sections as you use them and the worms work their way up is really good system.
The top doesnt always fit on very easily and i am concerned it will blow off and either the worms will escape or the rats and birds will get them. So some sort of clip for the lid would be good.
I have just put the third section on and the worms all seem happy, so at this point all seems good!
I also like that you can use the tap to pour any liquid into a watering can.

  41. Dave Phillips

After looking at a number of choices, the capacity of this and the fact that it’s British made were the deciding factors.
Parcelforce were a bit rubbish with their delivery but Ronnie was fantastic, answering emails swiftly (even out of hours!). Once raised to Worm City, Parcelforce were duly prodded and delivery came, third time lucky, soon after. Great follow up and superb, human, communication throughout.
Assembly was simple and the worms were alive and plentiful.
Looking forward to seeing them at work!

  42. stephanie wiffen

I was so excited to get this. It didn’t take long for me to have my first tray of compost.
However, I do now have quite a fruit fly problem, and they swarm out every time I open the lid so I would recommend not keeping it anywhere near your doors or Windows- as far from the house as possible. That being said, I can’t smell it.
I also had a sad mishap where my husband was watering it occasionally to keep it damp and I was regularly turning the tap to see if any liquid came out, but it turned out there was a blockage behind the tap and all of the liquid built up and drowned my poor worms! So now we regularly lift the bottom layer to check the liquid level, and of course we bought more worms.
I do love knowing that our food scraps are being used to make compost in our own garden. Also, I’ve found that layering shredded paper on top helps to reduce the fruit flies slightly.

  43. Simon

Love the idea of it but never realised how much work it would be looking after worms . This is however a great product and now that it has started to establish it is getting better, looking forward to the compost

  44. Bilyboy134

Everything you need to get a wormer set up, clear instructions on assembly , my wormer is established now and going well now

  45. Kathy

Due to UK weather glad it was durable plastic

  46. B.P.Newbury

The instructions were so easy to follow

  47. Sheila MacGregor

Comes with clear simple instructions. Easy to assemble and great information on how to set up the substrate for the worms. Very sturdy construction and easy to move from one area to another. Information on how to keep the worms happy too so be sure to read the information leaflet all the way through.

  48. Nick

Really good quality and addictive product, very happy with this purchase. Been raising the wormies for a number of weeks now.

  49. customer

Working well 1 week in. All worms alive and doing their thing.

  50. Becca

I’ve been wanting a wormery for a little over a year now and finally took the plunge after trying various plastic tubs and boxes for my worms over the last year. I’m over the moon with this wormcity wormery! It’s absolutely fantastic, only took minutes to build and set up! My worms are happy and so am I.

  51. Shed painter

What is to dislike! It blends in to the garden.

  52. Kitty

A bit fiddly (not sure I could have put bits together but had help so all good!) awesome little “stackable” system… am happy to report worms are happy in their new home/location (we do maybe have an issue with slugs … (!!) if anyone has any advice..? But am looking forward to happy healthy worms and lovely garden…

  53. Naomi

    Arrived very quickly.
Pretty easy to set up and nice clear instructions with extra information online.
    Loads of nice, healthy worms.

  54. Debi-Lee Taylor

Easy instructions, this product is exactly what it says it is, a great addition to the garden.

  55. JSW

Rearly excited to set this up.
Looking forward to feeding the worms our leftovers.
Great instructions and everything was included

  56. Annie

I just bought this two days ago and am very happy with it so far. It comes with everything you need to start your worm farm and all seems of good quality. I was a bit apprehensive when I opened the box but was soon reassured by the very good instruction booklet that came with it, guided through step by step and soon had the worms installed in my garden shed. There is a very good quantity of worms and all looked comfortable and in good health, safely packaged in plenty of bedding. They did all escape during the first night so I would recommend following the instructions to keep the whole assembled farm in a large bag or the box they arrive in for that first night. The second night only a couple escaped. I am looking forward to having them properly established over the next few weeks. I highly recommend this product.

  57. Adrian

Had about a month, all going to plan (hopefullly) with worms now multiplying and slowly chomping through waste.
Got the Wormcity because it is UK made, recycled and seems a decent design – plus a friend has had one for years and they are very happy with it. Support has been great, had a couple of questions and got helpful replies really quickly.
Most other reviews cover all the info you might want to know before ordering. A couple of thing to be aware of, fitting the tap isnt covered in detail in the instructions and its easy to put the rubber washer in the wrong place (it goes inside the sump to create a watertight seal). Also it really is designed for sheltered, or indoor, use – if rain hits the side of the wormery it can get inside and make things too moist. Plus worms get much less active below about 10C
We had the usual worm wander for the first few days – set it up inside the cardboard box it was delivered in and checked daily for escapees. Also found the sump / lid filled up with worms too, so gently put everyone back in the main tray.
Didnt want to add garden soil to start it off (you mix it with the coir it comes with) so got together a load of leaf mould from around the garden – its the worms natural habitat and they seemed to settle quickly in that.
Once things had settled we chopped up the cardboard box to make a supply of worm bedding and started adding small amounts of peelings and broken egg shells – we now have a routine of keeping egg shells on a piece of kitchen roll as we accumulate them, and the pop them in the oven after cooking in it and turning it off – sterlises them – then just crush them up with the fruit and veg waste.
Its not going to save the planet, but its a nice and virtuous thing to have

  58. ian lowey

Easily assembled. Clear information on how to use. Very pleased with it.

  59. Mr. Stephen J. Jackson

Purchased for a primary school use in small garden.
    Make compost and show composting.

  60. Rodney A

Arrived sooner than stated.Easy to set up.No problem with escaping worms did add some soil to coir as suggested so this may have helped. Not consuming a great amount of food at the moment but that may be down to the cold weather. All the worms looked nice and healthy when arrived ,glad i purchased this product

  61. Examiner99

My daughter loves this and I think it’s a good product. Unfortunately my senior brain did not click that some items in the box (the poor worms!) were living and I ordered it a month ahead of Christmas when the box would be wrapped under the tree… Daughter was furious with me on Christmas morning and rated me a murderer. I felt dreadful – but actually, on opening their bag, most (not quite all) the worms were OK. I don’t know how much they suffered though, so I really advise against my thoughtless approach.

  62. Jennie Foster

Wormcity arrived promptly and was easy to set up. The worms seemed very lively and healthy but did not attempt to escape. I am very pleased with the purchase.

  63. Jen Bendon

Bit fiddly to get nuts and bolts in to assemble. Very Sturdy instructions ok . Worms took about a week to settle but going on ok now .

  64. F Randell

Only had a short time, but was easy to put together and the instructions were easy to follow

  65. Trevor Allsop

Easy to install looks smart. Once the worms have settled in, takes a few days as apparently they don’t like the smell of new plastic, they seem very happy eating away. Best advice is to blend the waste food as makes it easier for them to eat it and get through it. Also makes for fat happy worms.

  66. ann nicholls

Really happy with it, easy to assemble and instructions easy to follow

  67. Ivan McCutcheon

This hasn’t worked for me so far (6 weeks) but I haven’t given up yet. It has got repeatedly flooded with rain water. Also I think the waste has become too compacted by the weight of the waterlogged layers above. Worms are mostly dead now but a few have survived and may repopulate the system

  68. Rod Collier

Takes a long time for any thing to happen

  69. Jane Brook

LOVE IT!!! Did my homework on this, spending months looking at different ‘vermicomposters’ or wormery, even looked DIY, other brands etc & I made the right choice with this one- sturdy, well designed, easy assembly, waterproof & great customer service!
I bought the x4 tray as the only mistake you can make is not having enough room for all your kitchen waste – I’ve placed mine just outside the kitchen door as its handy there & doesn’t get too cold, protection from the elements…
I have a large garden composter but as a keen gardener know the compost made from worm castings is the best ‘gold’ compost for my garden/house plants also you get a ‘worm tea’ which makes a fantastic liquid fertilizer, watered down 1-10 ratio
Don’t even get me on to the eco value of this system & the horrendous landfill of food waste we throw away each year

  70. Glyndwr10

Very good- I use this product to supply worms for fishing

  71. cesarina domino

Very good wormery and comfortable house for my new pets 🙂
Excellent customer service and very willing to answer any question you may have.
    I highly recommend this item.
Update . I am very impressed with the customer service. As I am new to this, I keep asking questions and they always answer me on Messenger. They always give great advice.
    I recommend this product 100%

  72. Mike G

Product arrived in good time. Well packed and so far looks / feels well built. Partner is delighted with her birthday present.
The supplied instructions, support, information on breed of worms and general dos and donts suggest a supplier that has (and does) put effort into their product.

  73. JoJo

    Excellent wormery.

We watched YouTube video which was really useful.

Comprehensive instruction booklet case with the wormery – important to read it all as it contains very useful info re the worms and how to care for them.

Our worms are super happy and didn’t even try to escape.
It’s a 5 star hotel and spa for worms!

  74. N Johns

My lid got damaged and Ronnie was quick to put things right. Good service and follow up.

Recommend they add a separator between lids and product to prevent it getting jammed as happened in my case. Would recommend.

  75. Breaca

Well thought out set of instructions and equipment

  76. R A THOULD

Everything supplied as advertised. Easy to assemble . Excellent quick delivery.

  77. Steve Stafford

I chose Wormcity because it is the only wormery made in the UK from recycled plastic.
The company are helpful and the wormery is really well made. It fits together in minutes and mine is running brilliantly. Two months in and I am on to my second tray of worms. Tomatoes love the liquid that comes off each week. DO keep it in the shade worms don’t work well in the summer sun. Our whole family have now rethought recycling and we get a great harvest too.

  78. A Smith

Everything is pre molded plastic and you get (2) bolts and wingnuts, however since you have multiple open top boxes with mesh bottom, the higher you stack it the more likely it will tip or the birds will knock off a tray or lid. Bolts and wingnuts are relatively minor in cost so if 2 per layer were included one would feel that it is sturdier. Otherwise everything good. Worms lively, packaging material fo worms good, included base starter food for worms. You will need to have newspaper or packaging paper when you get this because you are supposed to add a 1-2 inch layer of damp, not wet, paper ripped up into pieces
You only find this out towards the end of the instructions. Magazines will not do as they are more heavily treated than packing paper and could kill the worms. Kids had fun assembling.

  79. George Mills

Good job…dont expect compost in a rush but the worm tea is an excellent fertiliser for plants both indoor and out.

  80. J R Barnes

A very good product, just as described. Well made, sturdy, easy to assemble, clear instructions and delivered on time.

  81. RGN007

Around 2 months after assembling, I have 3 layers of decomposing vegetables and dog poo.
Today I tried the tap and got some nutrition for my tomatoes and the first 2 layers are already full and look like compost after this short time.
I was worried I had killed the worms as I was a bit hasty in using it, but no, they have multiplied and enjoying migrating up to the upper story where presently I have just stored a couple of egg cartons and a cereal box package.

  82. John Russell

I purchased this from Amazon but felt it was worthy of a review to help others. I have a compost heap which does not get hot and so is full of the small red compost worms. I then played at setting up a wormery for my kitchen waste with an old plastic dustbin full of holes at the bottom and some worms from the compost heap. It ended up being very smelly and very wet. I knew I had to do things better so bought a Wormery from Wormcity. It looks like a beehive and was easy to set up. I didn’t need the worms included here ( I used some of my existing worms and kitchen waste). I set up the lower tray and followed their advice about adding cardboard from egg boxes / toilet rolls to reduce moisture. Now no smells and the worms are now thriving and moving upwards through the trays as they seek out new food. I have started to drain off the liquid to feed my plants and the lower tray should be ready for emptying soon as well.

  83. S J Walmsley

This is not my first wormery as I have been composting for many years but because of lockdown, I felt I needed a second wormery to deal with the additional amount of kitchen waste and my existing one is quite full. My existing wormery which is over 15 years old is no longer on sale so I did quite a lot of research before deciding on this one.
It arrived very quickly and everything needed to start the process was supplied. It was easy to assemble. Overall I am very pleased with this wormery but I have two criticisms to make.
    1. The tap needs to be situated much lower as water builds up in the trough and the worms can’t get out and drown. Needs tipping frequently.
    2. I do not like the fact that each tray rests on top of the contents of the tray below, whereas previous wormeries had a ledge above the level of composting items for the next shelf to sit. This also stopped worms from escaping which I read can be a real problem. The instructions say that you must fill the trays one by one which defeats the object as empty shelves sit on the top. Overall I prefer my very old existing one but the legs are not stable when it is full so none of them is perfect and furthermore it is no longer on sale. This is the best option of the ones currently on sale.

  84. Dave Sexton

Arrived quickly, was easy to assemble and the occupants have made themselves at home.

  85. CBM

I am really impressed with this wormery. The item arrived very quickly. The design and quality are both really good. It was really easy to assemble with very clear instructions provided. I got my worms in straight away and they have been settling in for about a week. Putting the whole thing in a bin bag to start with is a good idea as the worms did try to escape in the first few days.
I’m looking forward to feeding them all my kitchen scraps once they are full settled in.
Unfortunately Parcel Force broke the lid during transport. I contacted Worm City and got a reply immediately and a replacement lid was delivered in a couple of days. The customer service has been fantastic.

  86. Gran Grimes

Brilliant item. My partner is enjoying feeding the worms and watching them work. The company replaced a part that was damaged when it arrived without question. Doesn’t take up much room, and is pleasant to look at. The instructions were easy. We are very pleased with it.

  87. Guy

Just started feeding the worms with kitchen scraps after the settling in period. We are loving it. Only food waste I the bin now is mainly onion skins.

  88. Rodger Rambles

This is a great addition to my collections of mini farms. A beehive being the other one. Very straightforward assembly. Neat design. I’ve had it for a while now and the worms are all doing very nicely

Great product, as expected. The initial batch of worms sent with the product unfortunately died after a few days, the company were great and sent out another batch. I’m happy to say the second batch are working really well. Couldn’t be happier, and great service from the company

Does everything you expect. Quick to put together. Not quite suitable for windy positions unless strapped down. Worth doing your homework on what can and cannot be given to the worms for them to eat. Think about where this is going before you buy. Not suitable for direct sunlight for hours at a time.

  92. Kerry Winters

I was slightly concerned on spending this much money I worms…..but totally worth it
My worms are still going strong after a good few months and they’re already giving us compost and compost water which is great for the veggies I’m growing
Plus the worms are really cute lol
Good study build and looks lovely!!!

  93. Russel Morris

Good-looking wormery, fits together really well. Unfortunately due to the heat (hottest day on record did not help) and delivery absolutely nothing to do with the product or sellers the worms seemed to have passed away (a moment of silence please) we will be getting more and then off it will go

  94. Q Court

I’ve had wormeries for years, and needed to replace one which has perished it’s so old! This one is a great size and shape (I’ve had round ones before) really easy to put together and comes with full instructions on getting the best from your wormery. I’ve had it set up for a few months now and it’s working as expected and producing liquid (great for my plants). My reason for removing a star is that the corners of the lid were broken off, which apparently happens a lot. Although replace without quibble, I do wonder why the company doesn’t just protect the corners better for shipping.

  95. P.W. Piper

Easy set up. Clear instructions. However I was very glad I put a large black bin liner around the wormery as the first night all the worms tried to escape and I had to rescue them from the bag and put them back in the wormery. If I had not done that i would have lost all my worms! Thereafter they stayed put and seem now – 3 weeks later – to be very busy inside.

  96. W Waterman

It is quite well made, although the way the first tray is fastened to the base leaves a bit to be desired.
Certainly, if you get your worms in the winter, it is going to take a little while to get them properly up and running and chomping your kitchen waste. I got mine at Christmas, and now by 13 Jan the worms are looking happy and fat and have had their first peelings and stuff. Is it a really practical way to use your waste ? Probably depends how much you have. It is quite fun, if you like that sort of thing

  97. Rachel Sinclair

Came with a large amount of healthy worms who have been eating their way through my kitchen refuse since day one. It’s larger than my previous wooden wormery with the extra value that it can’t bee eaten away by the wood lice that seem to be attracted to compost. Appreciate the it’s made out of recycled materials.

  98. Sarah Middleton

I bought this to replace a normal compost bin that was collapsing. I was looking for something rodent proof and found this wormery. I cannot believe how much I have learnt about worms since deciding to purchase this. I am now obsessed with making sure my worms have settled in and are happy. I have only had it a week so they are still settling in. Time will tell if it can cope with the amount that my family creates.

  99. Graham

Delivered in 2 days even though expected delivery was approx. 14 days. The product was exactly as described and the worms that were included appeared healthy and were very active. This item was well made and easy to assemble. Will update rating when this has been in use for a while and further information available.

Brilliant service. I had previously ordered a wormery from Argos only to be told they couldn’t deliver to my area. Thrilled to find this better one, made in the UK, supplied fully ready to set up including worms. And a very helpful lady phoned to confirm my delivery address and then arranged delivery to suit me. Delighted, and my worms and looking very happy and settled in their new home.

  102. Cedric C

I have been very pleased with this wormery and it provides good compost and lots of worms. My only critsism is the tap needs to be situated
lower as water can build up in the bottom of the trough and drown some worms. You need to drain it regularly and even tip it a bit to make sure
you get rid of all the water.

  103. D Mcculloch

I confess I have never owned a wormery before. However we have just moved to a smaller house and I wont be able to have the numerous compost heaps I had before.
I needed something smaller and more efficient. This looks like it will fit the bill.

Wormery came within two days of ordering and was well packaged. Really easy to set up. There are instructions but you can also easily work it out. Base slots together, install tap add one tray. Spread a few sheets of newspaper on the base. Soak coir and place on newspaper. Add worms and a handful of worm food and some old compost. Add and inch or two of shredded paper on top of them and pop the lid on.

A “How to use your wormery” leaflet is included and as long as you follow it I don’t see a problem.
This unit is a lot more expensive than some of the imported ones but it is well made and the makers are contactable for help and advice. Absolutely poured down today and the design kept the worms totally dry. Worth the money I’d say.
We will see how it goes and I will update in the future

**** Five months later and all is going well. I have lost a couple of worms that made their way down to the plug and drowned but that’s all. Nearly filled a tray now with compost so they have been hungry little devils. I was becoming concerned with the amount of little flies that buzzed around when you lifted the lid but a couple of handfuls of shredded paper on the top seems to control them nicely. The worms are slowing down now due to the air temperature dropping but hopefully I will have enough compost for a couple of pots this spring.

**** Ten months later and I have a lovely box full of compost. Most of the worms have now worked their way up to the second level and are happily munching away on it. The compost is a lot finer and darker than the usual garden bin variety. I haven’t had any worm juice to use though. I have checked my moisture levels and all is fine. I must have thirstier worms than most!
    * I had a blockage in the tap. Loads of worm juice now and the fruit trees love it.

***** Two years with the wormery.
Decomposes waste at about the same rate as a compost bin (maybe I need more worms) but the compost is of a far better quality, I currently have rhubarb growing on the last batch and it’s starting to take over the garden,
I really think worm juice has magical properties! All my plants love it. Vegetable patch and fruit trees thrive on it. Tomato plants love it.
It’s strong stuff though. I forgot to water it down and killed a passion fruit plant in days when I put it on neat. I get around a litre a week of the stuff so we’ve stopped buying plant food.

***A few years later and everything is still going strong.
Just taken the two bottom levels off that I left over the winter. They’ll do nicely for the tomato and cucumber plants that I’m about to pot up in the greenhouse.
I do seem to have encountered a problem though; no worms!!!
I have a dozen (very young ones) left in the top layer at best. Who knows what happened but I’m just about to order some more.

  104. M Mcavaoyd

My wormery has now been setup and active for a month or so. I’m still using just one of the extenders, but its almost full. The worms seem to have settled in nicely and haven’t died or anything else nasty. The product and worms were delivered very quickly and were very careful packaged for delivery. Assembly of the product was very straight forward and the instructions which came with it were very clear and precise.

  105. Vivian

We found the instruction very clear but there is a even better video on the Wormcity website showing how to construct and prepare the fibre and food for the worms. Even in the winter our worms are thriving and active. Just 1 detail for other customers we found it very difficult to connect the bottom tray with the tap to the upside down tray. We did not have good light where we were constructing the wormary so we’ll not make that mistake again. However the garage seems to be the right place for the wormary offering a cool and dry stable environment.

  106. Eco Chica

This is a decent sized unit and the video on their website about how to set it up, is extremely easy to follow. I was concerned that I did everything right, in order to settle the little fellows in, so I used harvested rainwater throughout the set up process. That included wiping down all the surfaces of each component with a mixture of half rainwater and half garden soil. The ‘sterile’ environment of a brand new wormcity is what I was aiming to transform. Also, from my research into soil bacteria etc, I learned that worms (all types) detest tap water and it in fact kills them. I’ve had the city set up for 3 days now and no worms have tried to escape, thus far. Also, I made sure the worm tea tap was closed after set up, as otherwise that’s a possible route by which they can escape. As they like a temperature between 10-25 degrees, I’ve decided to make a space under some trees that are on a west facing incline, as its much warmer there. They cannot tolerate direct sunlight, but the warmer they are, the fruitier they’ll get..!!! (I also made them lots a chopped up food, but since learned we’re not to feed them with kitchen scraps until 2 weeks have passed. They arrive with special dry food to carry them through that phase of settling in. Also, can I stress, they don’t smell or the small white tight mesh bag they arrive in. Also, don’t use any metal instruments to move them, it makes them ill, use a plastic type fork instead (like the sort for cat litter).

    Update 24/07/15:
My worm population has increased dramatically since I started adding Bokashi Bran (that I made myself) to chopped up kitchen scraps. I also cut back some undergrowth around the wormery so consequently there is more air circulating around it too. Another thing I noticed was during Summer I have to spray them with rain water once a day, inner lid, sides, and all the bedding. If you see ants, your wormery is too dry. Another thing on top of that I noticed, as I oxygenate water every day with a solar powered pond pump, on the odd occasion I’ve given the worms oxygenated water, they become very active and breed more. I leave a couple of slugs in there, but as soon as the slugs number about 10, they get the heave-ho.

A very happy customer…… 4 tray wormery with worms
Exceptional delivery service, I ordered it one day at 8:30am and it was with me by 9am next morning.
It’s really easy to put together via instructions given with it or if you do struggle with that there is a video on there web site and one on u tube that explains how to do it in more detail.
It took me half an hour from start to finnish to put it together.
It’s very sturdy and made from good quality plastic which is a good thickness.
Everything is in the kit that you need to set it up and get it going, no hidden extras need to be brought, except you do need is a small amount of soil and a news paper.

I’m no expert but I have done some research into keeping a wormery so I thought I’d add some tips to help you.
If ordered wormery with worms put together as soon as you can as in same day, I know this sounds silly but the odd person as be known to leave it for days and wonder why the worms have died.
Use rain water to soak the paper and the brown brick as worms don’t like tap water.
Don’t use any thing metal in wormery to move soil as worms really don’t like it.
Don’t over feed wormery as this is not good for worms, any left over waste/food put in your compost bin.
Don’t put any citrus fruit in wormery.
Keep wormery in cool place out of any direct sunlight.
Soil needed, I used out of my flower bed making sure there were no bugs or worms in it first before adding it to it, the reason for this is because it has some bacteria in it that helps kick start the wormery. Make sure your soil has no chemicals on it or it has been treated with anything or it might kill your worms, if in doubt use organic compost.

One last thing I’d like to add is that I put it together with my 6yr old granddaughter and it really was a delight to watch her face full of amazement and excitment as we worked through the steps of putting it together and then putting the worms in at the end.

  108. Sean Masters

The wormery arrived on the day following the order.
Due to the very cold weather I built it in the conservatory and left it as recommended for 4 weeks No signs of the worms.
After i loaded some kitchen waste and some soil the worms appeared within 2 weeks.
It is now in full production and I have loaded the second tray. Worms have yet to enter this tray.
It looks good and I would recommend the purchase

  109. Stephanie Clarkson

Robust & easy to construct. The instructions were clear & comprehensive & included dealing with contingencies such as worms making a bid for freedom. So far so good – no escaping worms and they arrived looking lively & healthy. Too early to say how efficient they’ll be at munching through the food waste I’d like to stop putting in the kitchen bin.

  110. Rob

I received the wormery yesterday. I ordered the standard black one. It was very easy to assemble and is sturdy. A very generous amount of tiger worms, as well as worm food to get them started, was included it the package. This is a large wormery so I am hopeful that, once established, the worms will be able to process a substantial proportion of the kitchen and household waste.

  111. Caro M

My wormery turned up 24 hours after dispatch, despite the weather being quite snowy, so straight off I was impressed. Included were very clear instructions on constructing the wormery (anyone can do it in minutes) and on how to set it up. Included was bedding, food and a lovely bag of worms. The poor things were a bit chilly due to the weather but fine nonetheless. As I hadn’t made room for them in the shed I put them in our reasonably warm spare room (on a beige carpet no less). I set the house up as instructed with bedding, and food supplied I put a small handful buried in one corner. After two days the worms had warmed up and were eating well, after four days they’d eaten all the food so I gave them a bit more. I didn’t have any escape and the few that like to live in the sump area have damp newspaper to crawl in. I’m nearly two weeks into owning my worms and have started to give them a bit of cabbage leaves and stalks which I froze, thawed and chopped up finely, as they ate that in three days I gave them defrosted cabbage, some mango skin with a small portion of coffee grounds and some ground up eggshells. I just had peek and the worms are already chowing down. As for the pale carpet – absolutely spotless. When the weather warms up I’ll move them outside for the summer but love them in the house as well. There’s been no smell and no mess so I seem to be doing alright by them so far. I certainly can recommend wormcity and it being British made is also a win for me. I’m looking forward to my worm compost and at this rate it won’t be too long!

Well built, easy to assemble and very stable.
Had worms in just over a couple of weeks and all going fine after a few early escapees. Worms starting to reduce scraps and bedding so fingers crossed they’re producing casts.
There’s no nasty smells which is good as it’s kept in the garage hidden behind my fishing gear, my wife has no idea it’s there. She’s not a huge fan of worms.

The one let down is the small surface area of the trays compared to other wormeries on the market. .5 m2 less than some. Other than that it’s a great product.

  114. Meghan

An excellent worm composting device with good instructions to go with it. Easy to set up and get going, two months after its purchase, it now houses hundreds of busy happy worms which are enjoying eating through the kitchen waste, multiplying happily and producing the rich compost very effectively. I have now added a fourth tray and have already extracted the super rich compost from the bottom tray which I am now using in my garden and greenhouse. Certainly, for any keen gardener this is an excellent purchase.

  115. P whitty

Arrived much quicker than expected, fairly easy to put together although I had a little problem getting the screws into place, could have managed better with another pair of hands. Looks good and does not take too much space. had my own worms and they appear to have settled in their new home. No more smell nor effluent that I had with my compost bin. Very pleased.

  116. Fred Hymas

I loved this item but didn’t have the time or the correct amount of waste material to look after the worms properly so I failed miserably to keep the wormery going. Don’t worry i gave it to a friend who already had 3 wormeries so he is now getting the benefit of the black gold that I was so keen to produce! I would definitely buy this again if I had the right conditions to keep it going.

  117. Dan Horan

There are lots of wormeries out there, and this is my second. It is easy to set up, but is sturdy and well put together. There are other wormeries out there that are more “secure”, and prevent any worms from escaping, but the fact is that the worms shouldn’t want to escape! The multi-tray design makes removing the compost really easy, my worms have never been happier!

The best part of this product is that you are getting it from a supplier who genuinely cares. If you have any issues or questions, no matter how minor, Wormcity are there to help! I’ve spoken to them on the forums on many occasions, just to let them know how my worms are getting on!

  118. S Coots

If your looking at wormerys then stop here at this particular one. Many have already stated why Wormcitys wormery is the best option so, rather than reiterate I’ll say this; Yes, I agree with what praise they give it and it is the best!

After a week, my worms (ordered separately from Wormcity) have begun to move into the first feeding tray. I can’t quite put into words how nice it is seeing waste material being turned into compost, but its brilliant! So satisfying. My paper recycle bin was usually full to bursting but not now, any paper I don’t need is shredded and ready to pop into the wormery. Same goes for the general waste bin too, all that excess vegetable material, tea bags (I have at least 10 cups a day!), banana skins etc, that would normally fill my bin in no time… worm form!

The instructions you get with it are easy to follow. The size is a perfect balance of not too small, not too big… sorry I’m already going over whats been said. Look, Just get one… or 2!

  119. T Stokes

The tap is about half an inch from the base of the sump allowing liquid to gather and drown any worms that happen to get in there. This is a design fault in my opinion. I have hopefully solved this problem by drilling a small hole in the base of the sump and putting a bucket/container under the hole. This will enable the liquid to drain into said bucket/container and save my worms from drownin

  120. Sue Weaver

I had a worm compost before I moved, but believed I didn’t have the space for one in my new place due to the last of garden. Once I found this product I was excited at the prospect to have one once again. A certain concern was the smell, but that has not been an issue at all. The lid keeps all of that in. I like the stacking aspect of this one so that it is easier to remove the good compost from the bottom before adding new waste to the top. Solid construction and easy to assemble as well.

  121. David Witt

Really, really fast delivery. Simple to set-up. You can get the worms delivered which shouls last a week or so without setting up – or opt for the voucher card if the wormery is a gift and order the worms later.

Wormery arrived quickly and easy to set up with good instructions. Had a couple of escapee worms in the box but nothing to be too worried about.

My main problem with this was in the early days with the ‘sump’ filling up with liquid very quickly and the worms insisting on droping into it an drowning. There is a partial ledge for them but it is of limited use, and still required a daily rescue mission. However, I added some extra soil to the coir to add a bit of depth and this seems to have resolved the problem of both liquid and drowning worms.

It is producing some compost but not in massive quantities yet – to be honest I would have expected a bit more. However the worms seem to be multiplying well! I have now moved it into the polytunnel to over winter.

  124. Sepp

This is my first wormery and I had no trouble assembling it and installing its inhabitants. Delivery was sooner than promised and all instructions were clear and concise. Our house is situated high up in the North Pennines and as temperatures are much lower than where the worms were bred we decided to keep the wormery in the in the porch to start with. It was fortunate that we did as next day the porch was full of escaping worms. Instructions sent explained how to prevent this problem and wormery now seems to have settled down to making the compost required for the garden at a much faster rate than the compost bins without the added vermin problem compost bins bring. Only wish I had bought a wormery sooner.

  125. Sandra Hayes

Well designed wormeries made with quality recycled plastic with adequate capacity for most without being too heavy when full. I have had several wormarys over the last 20 years, some homemade and some not and I would say this is the best I have used. I may add 1 more tray to increase the capacity to 125Kg but will see if it needs it first.

I’m not a habitual reviewer – in fact this is the first of many years’ worth of Amazon purchases I’ve felt moved to review.

I ordered my Wormcity one day and it was with me the next. I opened the box, thinking I might leave it for my husband to set up, and five minutes later, following the step-by-step instructions… it was set up!

Chose Wormcity after extensive research online. Mainly because it looked better designed than other wormeries; with plenty of capacity for the wrigglers and also not a precarious thing on legs, so nice and stable. I have 5 kids and a dog. Things tend to get knocked over.

When the Wormcity came, I wasn’t disappointed in the sturdiness and how ingenious it is, too. Well thought out and designed, and well constructed. It’s gone into the out-house for the winter, but have a shady corner ready for it in the spring. It is a nice looking thing, and won’t look out of place in the neatest of gardens (or an er…. ‘wild’ garden like mine!) I can’t resist checking out ‘my’ city – so far the worms look happy, and are in place and ready to get going in the spring, am sure! Have had a secret hankering for my own wormery composter for years – am so glad that now it’s finally here, it is everything I hoped it would be. Would have been awful if it wasn’t.

Wormcity have an informative website, with a forum – if you have any problems or questions, they seem to get answered quickly and efficiently.
    […]

Customer service second to none. Another reason I decided to go with Wormcity, as they seem passionate about what they do.
